I have loved food and cooking for as long as I can remember.
When I was little, I spent countless hours in the kitchen with my mother watching and learning as she cooked amazing meals for our family. Almost everything was from made from scratch, and the importance of good quality, seasonal ingredients was emphasized.
I was encouraged to eat all kinds of foods, and would get to set menus on occasion – famously requesting Cornish Game Hen, Tortellini and a Beet Salad for my fifth birthday dinner. Mushrooms were the ONE food that I refused to eat (I still have textural issues with them!).
As I got older, I cooked more and more – trying out recipes I found in magazines or cookbooks and making others up as I went along. Restaurants became more and more interesting as each menu provided new dishes, flavor combinations and interesting regional specialties to try. The day I figured out that I could BUY ingredients with my allowance was HUGE for me. I remember walking around Rodman’s in DC picking out semolina flour, oil cured olives and other rare treats.
Cooking, eating, and spending time with family and friends are a huge part of my life. I hope that with this blog, I can share my love of good food with you!!
